Gostujoče predavanje prof. Valentin Bearth »Fokus: arhitektura v lesu / Timber arhitecture in focus«
Architecture always expresses a society’s needs, expectations,
hopes, and translates them into a built environment. Creating
architecture means transferring a lifetime project to space. Architecture
is an art that connects its works to a place, a site, to
specific settlements having equally specific social, political and
cultural conditions. Building is a human expression that concerns
how man protects himself in the environment. Nonetheless, the
architectural project is also a cultural act that goes beyond the
mere fulfilment of practical needs, as it means transforming raw
materials, exploiting natural resources such as stone, iron, or
wood, in order to bring about interactions that move us deeply.
Nature’s transformation into an artefact confers cultural significance
to human needs. In this sense, architecture interprets man’s
search for happiness.
