The lecture is a musing on a selection of built projects completed with Diller Scofidio + Renfro, positing that the practice’s work subverts traditional notions of physical materiality in architecture. Within these, concepts that underpin the principal architectural ideas become not only primary motivators, but also assume the role of essential building material. What does it mean to construct with non-architectural matter? At the halfway mark of the Nanotourism workshop, we’ll consider what kind of physical stuff can make up spaces of experience.
