Study Information

Study programmes available

Single master study programme Architecture

Most of the exchange students will be interested in this programme. We are in the transition period from ‘old’ to ‘new’ program of Second cycle single master study programme architecture and the transition is happening gradually in the next years, year by year. In 2024/25 first three years will be taught by the new programme, 4th and 5th year in the old programme. First year subjects are not available to exchange students.

Master study programme Urbanism

Students studying urban design or urban studies at their home institutions that we have IIA with specifically for the field of urban design, urban planning or urban studies, may select courses from our Master urbanism studies. Due to the small number of home students in this programme and depending on the availability of courses also for non-slovene speaking student, the offer varies from year to year and is arranged on individual basis. Exchange students can propose LAs which will be signed on a provisional basis and we will be able to provide definitive info on available courses at the end of September.

Doctoral programme in Architecture

Only available to those who are studying at the doctoral level, and if bilateral agreements between institutions support this kind of exchange, also dependant on a given mentor’s availability.

Types of Subjects and their Availability

Types of Subjects

The types of subjects described below are similar to both study programmes.

Design Studio – our main subject (Projektiranje) throughout all years of study; Erasmus students usually decide for DS 3, 4 or 5. A joint Design Studio in English is organized specifically for English-speaking and incoming students. Other mentors are available; however, it is at their discretion whether to accept incoming students based on organizational constraints and their workload. Students coming for only 1 semester should automatically choose DS5 regardless of the year they are in at their home institution (the level gets adapted to their actual level). DS5 cannot be extended to the full year and needs to be changed to DS4 if exchange is extended. We survey exchange students’ wishes and preferences for the DS mentors list that goes online at the end of September. Student of urban design should choose Urban design studio 2 if coming for only one semester or Urban design studio 1 for two semester stays.

Courses/subjects: there are main subjects (usually worth 5 or more ECTS, occasionally less) and so-called elective subjects (3 ECTS). Elective courses are scheduled in the winter semester. The availability of the elective courses is decided upon on a yearly basis, and is dependant on the number of eligible applicants and available student places. To that end, we publish a list of elective courses in September. The limit of elective courses an exchange student can select per academic year is 5. The final list of available elective subjects will be known at the beginning of October.

Workshops: workshops are organized throughout the academic year, most of them being international. They are typically announced some weeks in advance. In Slovene, they are called “Delavnica”, and you will need to apply to them on your own. You may obtain 2 ECTS per workshop (max 6 ECTS for workshops overall) and they may be listed in your transcript of records. Urban workshops are also available to students of urbanism, their ECTS vary from 3 to 5.

The availability of courses for exchange students and some limitations

Students are free to choose subjects regardless of their study year at the home institution. Please ignore the A and B classifications for elective subjects – these are not relevant for exchange students. The maximum number of elective subjects is limited to 5 per year for exchange students. Division of credits in design studios is impossible; this means that students who select a one-semester-long DS will need to choose DS5 (11 ECTS). DS 3 and 4 are single-year, two-semesters-only subjects (16 ECTS). Students will be assigned to design studio mentors. Students can put Intensive Course of Slovene (3 ECTS) into their Learning Agreements (LA) if they chose to attend the course. The final list of available elective subjects will be published at the end of September; until then, electives in your LAs will be marked with a question mark (?). It is recommended to select around 20 ECTS worth of courses per semester, and we will not confirm LAs with more then 35 ECTS for 1 semester or 70 for 2 semesters.

There are some exceptions regarding subject availability to exchange students. Please see the provisional list below:

Urbanism programme subjects should be selected from the official brochures. For the descriptions of subjects, please see the official programme brochures.
