Theoretic and historic starting points for the comprehension of transformation processes in rural areas. The foundations and methodological basics for sustainable management and development of rural areas and settlements with regards to their agricultural or urban function. When planning and managing settlement patterns (settlements and other built structures) in rural areas, their involvement in the landscape and their relationship to the agricultural space are important. Rural
culture and identity; the genesis of the rural area with a focus on the development of agriculture as a forming element of the traditional rural cultural landscape; renovation and development of rural settlements; modern forms of spatial development of rural areas; traditional rural architecture and forms of its renovation.
