The subjects Architectural Design 1, 2, 3 and 4 are the fundamental compositional subjects of studies at the Faculty of Architecture in Ljubljana. Architectural Design 3 is held in Year 3 of the programme, building upon the content taught during the subjects Architectural Design 1 and 2.

The subject consists of lectures, the content of which ties directly into a series of tutorials. Throughout the lectures, students come to learn that architectural form and composition are not random. The architectural concept must answer questions of location, terrain topography, orientation, purpose, natural light, climate characteristics, construction, selected materials, etc.

The subject also comprises three different practical exercises. The first is the creation a spatial construct (installation) with natural materials. The end product is exhibited publicly, in one of the common areas of the Faculty of Architecture, in real scale and made of real materials. The second and third exercise require a more sophisticated approach to the first exercise, in the form of a simplified model of an object at a given location.
