The objective of the course addresses contemporary challenges in timber construction. The student has competencies in designing and planning wooden structures, use of wood and other renewable materials in the built environment, understanding the sustainable and development aspects of wooden construction; use of other materials (steel, aluminum, concrete and especially glass) in combination with wood to extend product lifespan, enhance functionality, and create better solutions for buildings and consumers, knows innovative fastenings systems, information and computer technologies in the field of renewable materials and sustainable construction – use of digital technologies. The course is designed for students who wish to deepen their knowledge of wood engineers products, particularly their application in residential and public building structures. In addition to an overview of architectural possibilities, trends and the latest examples of wood construction with an emphasis on multi-storey wooden buildings, the student also gain competences of wood product manufacturing and protection technologies and learns about the structural aspects of using individual wooden elements.
