Action and Strategic Planning

  • Workload

Action planning belongs to the informal, non-authoritative side of spatial planning. It brings principles of public action and participation into the strategic process and opens space for different stakeholders to work together.

The course moves from a review of literature and good practice to the analysis of a concrete action-planning event. Students unpack the motives behind the vision, the flow of the event, the actors involved and the results, then weigh how useful these are for spatial planning and the wider community.

In a second step each student designs their own urban workshop or event, setting goals and expected outcomes, deciding how to involve the public, and considering how the results might carry into later planning phases and reach local decision-makers.
