Borrowing System

All information pertaining to the borrowing system of the FA Library.

Registration and Membership

To become a library member, you need a valid form of ID and a signed registration form. Full and part-time students of undergraduate and postgraduate UL programmes have their membership fees included in the enrolment fee for that academic year. Other members pay a fee according to the price list. Late fees, reminders and other services are determined by the price list.

Registration without a membership fee and only a valid form of ID is offered to high school students, DBS members, retirees, and unemployed persons.

Students and UL staff can register online through COBISS+, which is typically faster than visiting the library in person. Following online registration, the new member’s account will be verified on their next library visit, where they will also sign a registration form.

Borrowing Library Materials

Members can take borrowed materials home if they present a student card or a form of ID. Whether specific materials are currently available can be seen in the COBISS catalogue (acronym: FALJ).

Loan periods:

  • books: 3 weeks
  • textbooks, study materials: 2 weeks
  • magazines (except for latest issues, which can only be borrowed for the reading room): 1 week

We do not loan:

  • encyclopedias, lexicons, dictionaries and other reference materials
  • latest magazine issues
  • bachelor’s and master’s theses or doctoral dissertations (except under the author’s written permission)

Loan Limits:

Members can only borrow up to 8 copies of one publication.

Materials borrowed for the reading room must be returned by the end of the day.

New materials can only be borrowed if the member has returned all overdue materials and has not exceeded 10 € in late fees.

Reserving Materials and Extending Loan Periods

Materials can be extended or reserved:

  • in-person, by visiting the library
  • over phone: 01 200 07 51 or 051 315 658
  • over e-mail: knjiznica@fa.uni-lj.si
  • with the web app My COBISS (My Library)

Returning Borrowed Materials

Materials can be returned:

  • in person,
  • via the postbox outside the library entrance,
  • over registered post,
  • by another person in your name.

Late fees are determined according to the current price list.

Late fees must not exceed 10 € or be older than 1 year.

Archive Materials

Materials with the tag Arhiv (“archive”) in the COBISS Catalogue are kept at a remote location and must therefore be reserved at least 2 days in advance.

Not collecting reserved materials is charged according to the price list of FALJ services (5 € in the case of archived materials).

Loaning Materials over Mail

Loaning Process:

1. Check whether the materials are available in the COBISS Catalogue.

2. Send the order to knjiznica@fa.uni-lj.si.

The order should contain the following information:
  • publication name, author’s name, the year of publication,
  • the student’s enrolment number or their library registration number,
  • the delivery address (street, house, postal code),
  • a phone number and e-mail.

Postage fees are paid by the member on their next library visit (4 € per package).

Materials are mailed via registered post to the addressee’s postbox (no signature). If the postbox is too small, a notice is left instead that the package can be collected at your local post office.

For additional questions, you are welcome to write to us at knjiznica@fa.uni-lj.si.
